It consists of 160 original icons and instruments of the craft owned by Tryavna icon painters. The collection of icons is thematically organized. Some of the best samples of the main icon painting families of Tryavna are on display. Chronologically the exhibition follows the stages of the development of iconography, from the time the craft was brought to Tryavna in the late 17th century, through the formation of the classic type of Tryavna icon during the first half of the 19th century, to the gradual decline of the school towards the end of 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The museum unique atmosphere is created by the deep impression instilled by the icons of the Tryavna icon painters. They embody the tradition of medieval iconography and the innovations of the masters' unique interpretation combining successfully colours, canon and humaneness in the depictions of the characters.
